Mid-afternoon on a Sunday brought this burgerguy to Ned’s Bar and Grill for a burger. A handful of patrons sat on the outside patio; another handful sat inside. I suddenly felt right at home when this Ohio native went inside and saw the Cleveland Cavs full in the first playoff game against the Boston Celtics.
The bartender/server, Eric, promptly greeted me and provided a menu. Out of a choice of 9 burgers and grilled sandwiches, I settled on trying the Blue Cheese Bacon Burger. When asked how I wanted it cooked, I answered with medium. For the side, I ordered the Black & Tan Onion Rings.
A short time later, my plate of food arrived. The burger was wearing its crown. I could see a teaser bite of bacon sticking out from the side along with a little of the melting blue cheese crumbles. The lettuce, onion, tomato and a pickle spear sat next to it. I was initially dismayed when I saw only 3 onion rings on the plate. However, after looking a few moments longer, I saw that each ring was the equivalent of 2-3 normal sized onion rings each.
I lifted the lid and placed the accompaniments on the burger. Upon first bite, the hand pattied ½ lb. beef was nice and hot. Contrary to order, it was cooked well done but still retained some juiciness. The beef had a mild flavor to it. No one ingredient or condiment was overpowering. The onion rings were hot and crispy.
Was this the perfect burger? No. But, in an establishment that has been around for about 50 years, it’s a good, dependable burger in a drop-in place with a pleasant environment. Special thanks to Ruben T. who entertained the small group of patrons with his flared renditions singing songs off of the Karaoke! You rock!
